Griezmann on Juventus radar

Serie A giants Juventus are showing interest in Real Socieadad winger Antoine Griezmann, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The French attacker has been in scintillating form over the last couple of years and his impressive showings did not go unnoticed.

Mundo Deportivo understands that Juventus are seriously considering making a move on the 22-year-old footballer.

The same source has suggested the Bianconeri have established initial contacts with the player’s representatives to see whether Griezmann would be interested in a switch to Turin.

Everything suggests the Old Lady will attempt to sign the Frenchman in January, although that is not going to be an easy task.

Griezmann has a contract until June 2016 at Anoeta and a €30 million release clause inserted in his deal.

Despite his fragile age, the forward has already made 156 league appearances for La Real, scoring no less than 38 goals in the process, and he is widely tipped to earn his first France cap in the coming months.

Mulumbu heaps praise on Yacob

West Brom midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu is grateful for the “protection” offered by team-mate Claudio Yacob.

Mulumbu has started every league match for Steve Clarke’s side this season, continuing his impressive partnership in central midfield with Yacob.

The duo have become well acquainted following Yacob’s arrival from Argentinian side Racing Club in July 2012, and Mulumbu is appreciative of his colleague’s efforts.

“It helps that I speak a little bit of Spanish and that’s how we communicate,” he told the club’s official website. “But Yacob is one player you do not need to speak to. He knows the role he can fill.

“He protects our defence really well and that gives me a little more freedom to play and go forward. Every time I play I know where he’s going to be.

“The best thing with Yacob is that he never stops running. He offers me protection.

“For me it is unbelievable and how many balls he manages to win.

“When you see how far he runs, you’d be surprised – it’s unbelievable.”

Mulumbu is satisfied with his personal progression since joining West Brom in 2009, but determined to continue developing as a player.

“Every game in the Premier League has a big intensity and that has helped me improve my game – that’s the Premier League,” he added.

“I can improve again. I just need to keep training hard.”

Bystrov set for Zenit exit

Russian daily newspaper Izvestia has suggested that Zenit winger Vladimir Bystrov will be leaving the club in January.

The 29-year-old has struggled for playing time this season due to a fierce competition for places and it appears he will be leaving his current employers in the near future.

Bystrov has a contract until the end of the season at Stadion Petrovskij, but the club chiefs will not be offering him a new deal.

Even if boss Luciano Spalletti rates the player highly, everything suggests the experienced midfielder is set to quit Zenit in the January transfer window.

According to Izvestia, Dinamo Moscow and FK Krasnodar are leading the race for Bystrov’s signature.

Vladimir Bystrov left Zenit to join bitter rivals Spartak Moscow in the summer of 2005, and despite returning to Stadion Petrovskij in 2009, Zenit fans have never forgiven him for that decision.

The Russia international has made a total of 155 Russian Premier League appearances for Zenit, scoring 22 goals in the process.

Arsenal target available for sale

Anderlecht chief Herman Van Holsbeeck has revealed that star player Cheikhou Kouyate is available for sale.

Arsenal are believed to be leading the chase for the Senegalese defender, while a number of other Premier League clubs are also keen.

And all the interested sides have received some welcoming news this week as Anderlecht seem ready to cash in on their prized asset.

“We expect to keep our star players, but Kouyate could leave,” general manager Herman Van Holsbeeck was quoted as saying in Metro.

“We know there is interest in him in the Premier League. If a suitable offer arrives he can leave.”

Cheikhou Kouyate arrived in Belgium as a youngster, joining Brussels in 2006, and it was in 2008 that he signed for Anderlecht on a free transfer.

The defender has since developed into a key player for the Belgian giants, making 128 league appearances for the club and scoring 3 goals.

Kouyate, 23, is currently regarded as one of the best young defenders in world football and it is clear a big club move is on the horizon.

Aguero keen on Barca switch

Catalan daily newspaper El 9 Esportiu is reporting that Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is interested in joining Barcelona.

The Argentine attacker has impressed since joining Manchester City from Atletico Madrid, but it is believed he is becoming unsettled in England.

Aguero is reportedly looking to return to Spanish La Liga, where both Real Madrid and Barcelona are interested in signing him.

However, El 9 Esportiu understands that the 25-year-old would prefer a switch to Camp Nou.

The same source has suggested that the player’s representatives have held several meetings with the Catalans as the two parties are looking to facilitate a move to Barcelona.

Manchester City’s €50 million valuation of the player could prove to be the problem though, while the Catalans would also have to find a way to meet the striker’s high wage demands.

Sergio Aguero currently tops the goalscoring charts in English Premier League, and he is 5/1 to stay there come end of the season.

Absence of Ronaldo or Ibrahimovic a ´huge loss´, says Cruyff

Dutch legend Johan Cruyff believes the 2014 FIFA World Cup will be poorer for the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo or Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Only one of Ronaldo or Ibrahimovic will have the opportunity to play at next summer’s showpiece in Brazil after Portugal and Sweden were drawn against each other in the European qualifying play-offs.

Cruyff, a three-time Ballon d’Or winner who was named player of the tournament at the 1974 World Cup, has expressed disappointment at the prospect of one of the world’s leading players missing out.

He told AD Sportwereld: “It is a huge loss for the world that one of these two will not be present. A nasty issue.

“It is unfortunate that fans have to miss one.”

Pressed on who he would prefer to see at Brazil, Cruyff added: “I’d rather Ronaldo, but that’s a bit from a tactical point of view, because otherwise I cannot show (up) in Spain.”

The first leg of Portugal and Sweden’s play-off tie takes place on Friday evening in Lisbon, with the return to be held in Solna four days later.
